NEW TRAINIING COMPLEX OPENS: CELTIC PRESS RELEASE
HISTORIC DAY FOR CELTIC AS CLUB OFFICIALLY OPENS NEW TRAINING CENTRECeltic Football Club is delighted today(9/10/07) to officially open its new state of the art Training Centre at Lennoxtown, East Dumbartonshire.
The multi-million pound, 50 acre site, nestling in the stunning location of the Campsie Fells will be the new base for Celtic's entire professional footballing operation.
Today's announcement is the culmination of just over 2 years of work, with the former Lennoxtown Hospital site being completely transformed into one of the most stunning training centres in football.
Celtic Chairman Brian Quinn commented,"We are absolutely delighted to officially open our new Lennoxtown training centre today. This is a very important day for Celtic and one which heralds a new era for the Club. The new centre is a high quality facility which befits a Club of Celtic's stature and we are sure it will be one from which we will reap great rewards."
Brian added, "In recent seasons,Celtic has enjoyed great success at all levels, winning a number of Championships and Cup competitions at first team, reserve and under-19 levels, as well as the Club re-establishing its reputation on the European stage. This demonstrates that we have had the correct people and structures in place - it is now very satisfying to have facilities to match."
Celtic's Chief Executive Peter Lawell commented, "The new Lennoxtown centre is something which everyone connected with the Club, including our supporters, should be extremely proud of. In a magnificent setting, the centre is one which we are sure will be invaluable in both providing excellent training facilities for our first team and in developing Celtic stars of the future."
The centre will be the focus for all of the Club's non-matchday football activities, boasting a wealth of first class facilities including natural grass and artificial pitches, indoor training hall, state of the art fitness centre and hydrotherapy pool.
Celtic's medical and sport science staff will also be based at Lennoxtown where they and the team will benefit from the latest in physiotherapy and treatment facilities.
Celtic Manager Gordon Strachan is also delighted with the opening of the new Centre. Gordon commented, "It is great that the Club's new facility has been completed. The centre enjoys a tremendous location and excellent facilities and I am sure we can only benefit from this move. It is a great day for the Club."
As a new member of the local Lennoxtown community, Celtic has ensured that through a structured programme of activities, local organisations will also benefit from the centre.
Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, Rhondda Geekie, is delighted to welcome Celtic Football Club to the area. She said, "This is a very prestigious development and I'm delighted that we've been able to attract an international brand of the standing of Celtic Football Club to our area. The fabulous new facility is set in a very beautiful part of East Dunbartonshire and will, I'm sure, be a boost to current regeneration efforts in that area and bring many benefits to the communities of Lennoxtown and surrounding towns and villages. Celtic Football Club is a very community- minded organisation and I look forward to working in partnership with the Club on joint projects in future."
The new Celtic Football Club Training Centre is around 50 acres in size. The first phase of the site includes:
