Celtic Graves Society honour Dan Doyle

The Celtic Graves Society are proud to announce our first event to mark the unmarked resting place of a legendary Celt will be in honour of Dan Doyle

Dan Doyle

Played for Celtic from 1891 to 1899, winning 4 League medals and 1 Scottish Cup medal. At St Peter's The Good Shepherd Cemetery, Dalbeth Near Celtic Park On 6th November 2010 At 12 noon On the 123rd anniversary of the club's founding in St. Mary's Hall, we are pleased to confirm that a Blessing will be given by Monsignor Smith from St Mary of the Assumption Church, the Calton. Attendees at the event will include: A representative from Celtic FC Jim Craig - Patron of the Celtic Graves Society Marie Rowan - author of 'Dan Doyle - The Life and Death of a Wild Rover' All Celtic supporters are welcome to attend and flowers can be laid on the grave. "In Dan Doyle the Celtic Faithful had a man who was the embodiment of our own hopes of the time in rising above the mundane whilst remaining independent of soul." We are pleased that the first Celt we are commemorating was the subject of Marie's excellent biography which brought Dan's name and exploits as a major figure in the first Celtic team to win the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Championship back into the public realm. We hope to build on Marie's extensive research in which she identified that he lay in an unmarked grave by the placing of a memorial stone - a fitting tribute to one of the first Celtic greats who was held in great admiration by the Celtic support of the day. We hope you can join us at the ceremony and after at the Celtic Club on London Road prior to kick-off at Celtic Park against Aberdeen at 3pm. For more information please visit www.celticgraves.com where donations to the work of the Celtic Graves Society can also be made. Please join the CGS to help us achieve our aims for the year ahead.
