FAC goes to the Justice Committee!

Published on Friday 19th April, 2013 by Celtic Trust

By happy coincidence FAC will be at the Parliament the day the Justice Committee discusses the Act

As many of you know, and as was announced a few weeks ago, FAC will be going to the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday 23rd April to keep up the pressure on the Government to repeal the Offensive Behaviour at Football Threatening Communications Act and place our concerns about the policing of the Act in the hands of our parliamentary representatives.

We note with some pleasure that the Justice Committee Agenda for that day - published this morning - contains the following:

Item 4:  Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012:  The Committee will consider issues relating to their operation of the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012.

This is a welcome development and we hope that those charged with looking at this Act will now realise that it is not working and and early review of it should be a priority. Given that it is not due to be reviewed for another two years and more, it can only be hoped that the Justice Committee, in discussing its operation, are preparing the way for an early review.

We have some tickets to go and watch this discussion and those who don't have tickets will be able to watch it on a TV link in a room within the Parliament building.

Please email celtictrust@hotmail.com or fansagainstcriminalisation@gmail.com if you want to come to the Parliament with us and/or you want to travel on the bus from George Square which leaves at 9am on Tuesday morning.
